William is a Principal Consultant at Pangolin Associates. He has more than 20 years of corporate and professional experience in climate change, corporate finance and corporate strategy. He combines his direct experience managing climate risks, decarbonisation, climate policies, climate-related financial disclosure and carbon offsetting with his extensive commercial experience providing practical strategic advice to clients.
Previously, William was the Principal – Climate Change and Net Zero Emissions at ASX20 listed Newcrest Mining, and subsequently at Newmont Corporation. In this role he was responsible for overseeing Newcrest’s climate risks and opportunities, consulting on climate policy across Australia, Canada and Papua New Guinea, preparing fully-costed decarbonisation pathways, developing its carbon offset strategy, and preparing climate-related financial disclosures. He was also a member of the Minerals Council of Australia Climate Change subcommittee, and the Australian Industry Greenhouse Network.
William has worked extensively within the mining and metals, power and utilities, infrastructure and transport sectors. Prior to Newcrest Mining, he was an Executive Director in corporate finance at EY and worked at BHP during its demerger of South32.
William is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Diploma of Modern language (Mandarin) from the University of Melbourne. He has also undertaken a Graduate Diploma of Environment at the University of Melbourne. He has lived and worked in Australia, China, and the United Kingdom.
