Independent Thinkers, Grounded in Science

We started Pangolin as a small independent climate change consultancy in 2010. Our purpose was to establish a positive-impact business that serves as a genuine force for good.

The Meaning Behind Pangolin

Our founders named the company Pangolin Associates because the pangolin is an important indicator of ecosystem health. Threatened by hunting, deforestation and wildlife trafficking, its decline highlights the need for environmental action, a commitment that continues to guide our work today.

Our Story

Since then, we’ve become trusted experts in emissions measurement, climate adaptation and transition planning, transforming complex data into actionable insights that drive impact and performance.

Climate change and the transition to a carbon-constrained economy are reshaping the way organisations operate. Pangolin Associates was established to help organisations navigate this change through practical advice and strategic guidance. Today, we are a leading Australian climate consultancy, helping organisations adapt, decarbonise and build resilience in a changing climate.

Pangolin Associates supports the findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the goals of the Paris Agreement, including limiting global temperature rise to well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels. We work with clients to align with these commitments through science-based targets, net zero strategies, ESG initiatives and tailored climate solutions.

Maurice Blackburn has worked closely with Pangolin Associates for over 10 years. Pangolin has helped us to monitor our carbon emissions and has provided us with reports aiding us in identifying where we can improve and how we have improved as a sustainable business year on year. Through reducing our emissions and then offsetting what we can’t reduce, Pangolin has helped us progress and lead sustainability initiatives within the legal sector. There are more steps to go in our journey and Pangolin’s partnering will remain important as we continue.

Pangolin Associates was great to work with and helped Leichhardt meet all of the requirements of the NCOS Carbon Neutral Certification [now Climate Active] program. Their experience was invaluable to us as there were very few examples of carbon neutral councils to reference. Council needed a qualified and experienced consultant to help Council meet its goal of being Carbon Neutral by 2012.

At FB Rice we have long been aware that carbon pricing is to come into effect in 2012. However it was the Pangolin Report that finally gave us a clear understanding of the potential impact on our business. The report also gives us clear guidelines into how the firm can prepare for the approaching changes and we look forward to continuing to work with Pangolin Associates to reduce our carbon footprint and complete our journey to carbon neutrality.

We believe that without certifications a lot of bold claims can become marketing ploys. We wanted to give ourselves, our team and our customers confidence that what we say is true. We also wanted to raise the bar within our industry, our country and the globe. We chose Pangolin to help us through this process. Being a fellow B Corp was a big tick of approval to start off with. Pangolin exceeded our expectations in terms of communication, adaptability, value, quality as well as speed. Without them this process would have taken us much longer. We have learned a lot through this process about how we can improve in the future by having granular visibility into our carbon footprint.

Ross Hill has become the first certified carbon neutral (Climate Active) winery in Australia. This has been achieved by the hard work and experience from the team at Pangolin Associates. To become carbon neutral has been a goal for the Robson Family for a long time, our philosophy is to basically have as small a footprint on the earth as possible. With a 38KW solar panel and then energy reduction strategies we have been able to achieve our goal. It would not have been possible with out Pangolin who have been very passionate and diligent in their advice and also steering us through the regulations of becoming carbon neutral.
