T2 partnered with Pangolin to enhance its greenhouse gas emissions reporting, identify key emissions drivers, and establish a more robust foundation for long‑term sustainability planning.

Date Published: 6/2026

T2 Tea is a global retailer known for its innovative tea blends, bold brand identity, and commitment to ethical and sustainable sourcing. With a strong retail presence across Australia and international markets, T2 has embedded sustainability into its product development, packaging, and supply chain practices. As expectations for transparency and credible climate reporting continue to rise, T2 recognised the need to strengthen its emissions data, improve reporting consistency, and build a clearer understanding of its environmental impacts across the value chain.

To support this work, T2 partnered with Pangolin Associates to enhance its greenhouse gas emissions reporting, identify key emissions drivers, and establish a more robust foundation for long‑term sustainability planning. This case study outlines T2’s journey, from improving data quality to embedding processes that support credible, decision‑useful reporting.

Enhancing Emissions Reporting

In response to growing stakeholder expectations and the need for more rigorous sustainability insights, T2 engaged Pangolin to strengthen its annual emissions reporting across Scope 1, 2 and relevant Scope 3 categories. The partnership has enabled T2 to build a clearer picture of its emissions profile, improve internal capability, and align its reporting with best‑practice methodologies.

The Role of Pangolin Associates

Pangolin supported T2 through a multi‑year engagement focused on improving emissions data quality, strengthening internal processes, and building a more consistent and transparent reporting framework. The work involved detailed modelling, data validation, and collaboration across T2’s sustainability, operations, and supply chain teams.

Stage 1: Emissions Boundary Definition and Data Assessment

The first stage involved establishing a clear emissions boundary and assessing the completeness and accuracy of existing data sources. Key activities included:

  • Reviewing historical emissions reporting and identifying inconsistencies or data gaps.
  • Validating activity data across retail stores, warehousing, logistics, and product‑related emissions.
  • Mapping relevant Scope 3 categories and determining materiality.
  • Establishing a consistent methodology aligned with recognised standards.

This assessment provided T2 with a clearer understanding of its emissions drivers and highlighted opportunities to improve data capture and reporting accuracy.

Stage 2: Emissions Modelling and Reporting Framework

The second stage focused on strengthening T2’s emissions modelling and establishing a repeatable, transparent reporting process. Activities included:

  • Modelling emissions across Scope 1, 2 and material Scope 3 categories.
  • Improving data collection processes to reduce manual effort and increase reliability.
  • Developing a consistent year‑on‑year reporting structure to support internal and external disclosures.

This work enabled T2 to produce more accurate, comparable, and decision‑useful emissions insights.

Key Learnings from the Engagement

Through this multi‑year process, several insights emerged that have shaped T2’s approach to sustainability reporting:

  • Data quality matters: Improving the accuracy and consistency of emissions data has strengthened T2’s ability to identify meaningful reduction opportunities.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration is essential: Engaging teams across operations, supply chain, and sustainability improved data completeness and built internal capability.
  • Clear methodology builds confidence: Establishing a transparent, repeatable reporting framework has enhanced stakeholder trust and reduced uncertainty.
  • Visibility drives action: Understanding emissions hotspots across the product lifecycle has informed strategic planning and supported long‑term reduction goals.

Outcomes and Impact

As a result of the partnership, T2 has achieved:

  • Improved emissions data quality and reporting consistency.
  • Clear identification of key emissions drivers across its value chain.
  • Strengthened sustainability storytelling for customers and stakeholders.
  • More robust foundation for long‑term emissions‑reduction planning.

These outcomes have positioned T2 to continue advancing its sustainability commitments with greater clarity and confidence.

Looking Ahead

T2 is now progressing several forward‑looking initiatives, including:

  • Continued packaging innovation and circularity improvements.
  • Deeper supplier engagement to reduce upstream emissions.
  • Expansion of renewable energy and energy‑efficiency measures.
  • Further integration of sustainability into product development processes.

These initiatives will support T2’s long‑term ambition to reduce its environmental footprint and strengthen its leadership in responsible retail.

Global and Community Benefits

T2’s sustainability initiatives contribute to broader environmental and social outcomes, including alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Responsible Consumption & Production, Climate Action, and Life on Land. Through ethical sourcing and community partnerships, T2 supports positive social impact across the regions where its ingredients are grown and produced.
