Gary Cafe | Principal Consultant | Climate Strategy and Energy Transition

Gary CafeGary Cafe is a seasoned Energy & Sustainability business leader and engineer with over 25 years of global experience. After a decade in engineering roles across Energy, Chemicals, and Telecommunications, he has spent the past 15 years advancing renewable energy and guiding major corporations through the energy transition.  Gary currently leads the Energy Transition practice at Pangolin Associates steering clients through the challenges and opportunities posed by renewables integration, electrification and demand side response.  

Previously, Gary led Schneider Electric’s business focused on sustainable glass manufacturing, guiding businesses through the biggest technology change they’ve seen in over 60 years, pioneering the electrification of high-temperature (1600–1800°C) processes, and the renewables strategy for the largest glass manufacturers globally. 

Also at Schneider, Gary served as a director in the Advisory Services division, delivering sustainability consulting to multinational clients across heavy industry, logistics, food and beverage, and manufacturing sectors.  

Earlier in his career, Gary managed over 1 TWh p.a. of electricity consumption for a chemical company, leading one of Europe’s first PPA negotiations and a pioneering 150 MW Demand Side Response program. He also guided BAI Telecommunications through the first years of NGERs reporting, developed demand side response programs, engineered on-site renewable power solutions, and conducted energy efficiency assessments across 900 facilities. 

He holds an MSc in Energy Studies & Renewable Energy from Murdoch University, a Bachelor’s in Electrical & Telecommunications Engineering from UTS Sydney, and is a PMBOK-certified Project Manager.
